Designing with a Global Team
Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM (PST)
Come join Silicon Valley Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and our technical speaker!
"Designing with a Global Team"
Invited Speaker: Nitin Rao, Co-founder, sunglass.io
Abstract: Design is changing fast. The best product ideas to solve our pressing problems are new not necessarily from established companies, but from small teams who expect easier tools (think Shapeways), creative financing (think Kickstarter) and even pushing the boundaries of open design (think DIYRockets, crowdsourcing 3D printed rocket engines). As many aspects of engineering are commoditized, engineers and consultants need to reinvent themselves to stay competitive. In addition, working in global collaborative environment is also becoming widespread as new platforms to collaborate are also available as a network of connected web services from 3D printing to analysis, fork/merge protocols for more seamless revision control, infinite computing power to run applications in parallel, intelligent background agents such as environmental and structural optimization, kernels leveraging multi-core processing.
In this talk we will discuss the paradigm - Design Together in a Global Team - with cloud-based software infrastructure that enables design of products for engineering teams that are too fluid and distributed geographically for traditional standards setting and where each group brings their own custom toolkit. A case study for mechanical design concept will show-cased.
This event is graciously hosted by Ozen Engineering Inc.*
Pizza and drinks will be provided.
